European Travel Information Authorization System (ETIAS)
The ETIAS program is set to go into effect by November 2023. Through this program, people from over 50 countries can travel visa-free to the Schengen area of Europe. Moreover, you’ll also have to register online with the EITAS system to log in to your travels. This incentive is taken to protect the areas and promote tourism and business. Short Term Stay
All US citizens are granted entry into Europe without requiring a visa for short-term periods. So you don’t have to check for visa requirements if you’re only going there for a small business trip or a vacation. Each European Country, however, has its own laws, so it won’t be wrong if you look into them just to be on the safe side.
Long Term Stay
Short-term travel doesn’t require visas, but what about the long-term? If you’re a US citizen planning on relocating to any European Country, you can’t stay long-term without a visa. At present, you can stay there for a period of 90 days without any visa. However, if you extend your stay, then you’ll have to get a proper visa.
For this, you’ll have to come back and apply for a visa for your desired country through the embassy in the US. Additionally, you’ll be asked for proper documentation, so make sure you prepare all the documents in advance. Once you get your visa approved, then you can stay in Europe for periods extending to 90 days.
